Forklift Operator and Material Handler Job Description
Seeking an experienced Forklift operator, flatbed-loader for our Truss department. The Forklift Operator supports our team by safely and efficiently loading truss packs for drivers to deliver. The accuracy of loads is key to save time and money, making this role an important component of the team. The operator also assists other yard employees as needed. Candidates with experience loading and maneuvering long/large/awkward loads welcome, you’ll like the atmosphere here.
Shift/PayMon-Fri 7-5:30, 5x10s shift with built in overtime. Expect to clear over $1200/wk
$21-24/hr to start. Increase in compensation after 90-training period
Responsibilities- Utilize forklift or heavy machinery to unload and load crane trucks.
- Build safe and efficient loads of building materials by correctly reading load sheets and invoices.
- Load trucks in order of delivery schedule and in accordance with local and state laws and regulations.
- Ensure loads are complete and all items on paperwork are loaded on the truck.
- Check loads for banding order and quality, reporting any quality issues to management or helping to fix them.
- Put stock away and clear racks when needed to allow production without delay.
- Stage floor packs so they are ready when logistics comes to get them, and load floor packs onto logistics trucks.
- Receive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and depositing inventory in designated locations.
- Open and close the yard as needed and keep the forklift clean.
- Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy and check all paperwork for accuracy.
- Maintain yard cleanliness during the course of the day and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in material handling and forklift operation.
- Experience with loading, strapping, and operating a forklift with large materials.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Familiarity with construction, assembly, and general labor tasks.
- Competence in using power tools, hand tools, and handling framing and production tasks.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Shoes that are puncture resistant, slip resistant, and made of leather or composite material required.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard.
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle when necessary.
- Ability to cover different shifts when necessary.
This position operates in a warehouse/construction materials yard in all weather conditions. Working days are Monday through Friday, with Saturdays as needed. Hours and schedule may change based on workload and season.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is 21.02 – 23.27/hr
