Temporary position(s) within the Road Operations & Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department
Under close supervision, the Flaggers and Laborers will perform traffic control duties and maintain County roads in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. (any one position may not include all the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions in the class)
- Perform traffic control and flagging activities as needed
- Follow safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices; duties may vary according to job assignment
- Operate non‑CDL pickups and flatbed trucks
- Operate hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance and daily equipment inspections according to County standards
- Perform basic road repair and maintenance tasks
- Report safety hazards and traffic problems
- Perform manual labor assignments as needed, cut brush with hand tools, chip, load and haul brush
- Clear rights‑of‑way of brush and other debris to improve visibility or diminish road hazards
- Facility housekeeping and maintenance
- Prepare reports and maintain records
Work is performed outdoors at construction sites, maintenance facilities and other environments with exposure to inclement weather. Moderate physical demands; strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.

Seasonal position, no experience required.
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a Washington State Traffic Control Flagger card
- Valid WA State driver’s license with a clean driving record
This position is required to follow chapter 13 of the Mason County Personnel Policy. If offered the position you must provide an Abstract Driving Record from the WA State DOL.
