Job DescriptionWe are recruiting for the 26-27 school year. Apply today, train this summer, and start in the fall!
General Responsibilities
- Transport students with disabilities on to and from school routes under the direction of the Director of Specialized Transportation.
- Work 20‑25 hours per week as a regular School Bus Driver and receive a standard benefits package – retirement, medical, dental, vision insurance, and employee assistance.
- Operate smaller school buses that carry fewer passengers.
- Maintain accurate and legible records of daily bus logs and required documents.
- Establish and maintain effective, cooperative communication with students, parents, school staff, peers, and supervisors.
- Supervise students, maintain control on and off the bus, and assist students with physical disabilities in boarding and disembarking.
- Drive scheduled routes and approved off‑district activities, and participate in staff meetings, in‑service programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Inspect, clean, and request maintenance for the bus and related equipment per agency policy.
- Report unsafe acts or conditions that require additional assistance.
- Read and interpret maps and street guides.
Salary
Full hourly range for School Bus Drivers: $29.59 – $33.73. Offers are typically at the entry level of the range. Substitute Drivers: $27.41 – $27.95. Training for CDL is available through ESD 112; candidates who complete the training will receive substitute driver pay to start.
Regular attendance is required. Routes are split shifts Monday‑Friday.

- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, peers, and supervisors.
- Supervise and maintain control of students.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Drive school bus on scheduled routes and approved activities.
- Inspect, clean, and request maintenance of the bus and equipment.
- Report unsafe acts or conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Read and interpret maps and street guides.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age 21.
- One year experience as a driver of a truck or commercial vehicle or at least three years as a driver of a passenger vehicle.
- Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience transporting students with disabilities.
- Authorized Washington State school bus driver.
- Work or volunteer experience with preschool‑12th grade children.
- Operate a school bus under a variety of road conditions.
- Strength and ability to assist students with physical disabilities, including positioning special‑needs equipment.
- Travel to school districts to cover routes.
- Maintain regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and a valid Washington state class 'C' commercial driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsement and air‑brake restriction removed, per federal regulations.
- Possess current Washington state school bus driver authorization (WAC 392‑144‑101).
