WSDOT is seeking two dedicated and safety-focused Highway Maintenance Worker 3s to join our Southwest Region maintenance team in Vancouver, WA. In this vital role, you will help keep Washington’s transportation system safe, reliable, and efficient for the traveling public. Working under the direction of the Highway Maintenance Supervisor, you will operate a variety of heavy equipment, vehicles, and specialized tools while performing skilled highway maintenance and repair activities on state highways and transportation infrastructure.

Your work directly supports the safe movement of people, goods, and services throughout the region.

As a senior member of the maintenance crew, you will provide leadership and guidance to lower-level Highway Maintenance Workers, helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to established standards. You may also assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Highway Maintenance Supervisor. This position plays an important role in promoting teamwork, accountability, and a positive workplace culture while contributing to WSDOT’s mission of connecting communities and keeping Washington moving.

Work is generally performed Monday–Thursday on four 10-hour shifts; however, weekends, holidays, night work, and extended hours may be required for emergency response and non-scheduled callouts. The position requires the ability to report to the duty station within 60 minutes, respond in all weather conditions, and participate in rotational night, standby, and call-back assignments.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker 3 will:

• Lead Highway Maintenance Crews in the daily performance of all maintenance and operational tasks throughout the State Highways.
• prioritize, plan, schedule and budget maintenance activities
• Lead, schedule, and direct highway maintenance activities throughout State Highways.
• Coordinate equipment and manpower with fellow Highway Maintenance Worker 3s.
• Maintain and submit daily records and reports of maintenance activities.
• Enter all maintenance activities into computerized systems (i.e. Highway Activity Tracking System (HATS), Work zone Database (WZDB); review computerized records to ensure accuracy.
• Train personnel in equipment use, safety, highway maintenance and public relations.
• Arrange for the purchase or repair of replacement parts; arrange rental or lease of privately owned equipment.
• Conduct ICP inventory and accurate record keeping.
• Prepare project estimates for all LEMO (Labor, Equipment, Material, Other) costs.
• Investigate employee personal injury and equipment damage. Assist in reporting accidents in computerized systems. (Safetrak)
• Perform snow and ice control, to include application of anti-icing compounds to road surface with truck mounted equipment.

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required
:

• Equipment Operation: Skilled in operating and maintaining various Class A, B, and C highway maintenance equipment, tools, and vehicles following WSDOT standards. Proven ability to safely transport heavy equipment and materials between job sites.
• Reporting: Must be able to report in service to the assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
• Licensing & Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license, or Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with N endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL with N endorsement within 1 year of hiring date.
