Position: Security Officer 1

Office of Employee and Business Services

The Office of Employee and Business Services (OEBS) provides customer service and operational support to ODJFS through five bureaus:
Business Services, Civil Rights and Labor Relations, Human Resources, Multimedia Services, and Training and Educational Services. OEBS customers include all ODJFS employees, clients, service providers, county agencies, and the public. Learn more about the office by visiting the ODJFS OEBS webpage.

What You Will Do

This position is responsible for keeping the ODJFS buildings and grounds safe and secure. The duties include patrolling on foot and by car to check for fires, damage, theft, broken equipment, and leaks; ensuring doors are locked or unlocked as needed; reporting safety violations or unusual incidents; and sometimes helping investigate complaints, injuries, accidents, or thefts.

Additional responsibilities include monitoring electronic security for all ODJFS offices statewide, assisting with medical emergencies such as providing first aid or CPR, tracking visitor entries and monitoring security alarms. The role also involves investigating safety and security violations, reporting equipment issues, removing prohibited items, issuing safety warnings, maintaining accurate records of checks, visitor logs, and equipment issues, attending training, and using a computer for reports and file maintenance.

If assigned first‑aid, CPR, or AED duties, the candidate must become certified within the first few months and keep certifications current.

OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 25. Starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (Step 1, currently $20.41 per hour). New hires move to the next step in the range after 4 months and annually thereafter. Cost‑of‑Living Adjustments increase wages each fiscal year.

  • Step 1 – Hourly $20.41, Annual $42,453 (At Hire)
  • Step 2 – Hourly $20.85, Annual $43,368 (4 months)
  • Step 3 – Hourly $21.40, Annual $44,512 (16 months)
  • Step 4 – Hourly $21.93, Annual $45,614 (28 months)
  • Step 5 – Hourly $22.60, Annual $47,008 (40 months)
  • Step 6 – Hourly $22.96, Annual $47,757 (52 months)
