Senior Technician, Formulations
LocationVandalia, Ohio
SummaryThe Senior Formulation Technician will assist the R&D Formulations staff with product development activities from small scale to commercial batch production. The candidate should have a keen interest in life sciences or drug manufacturing, and the ability to serve as a leader and mentor to more junior technicians. The technician will perform various techniques of drug manufacturing including dispensing, blending, granulation, compression and coating.
Responsibilities- Assist in running projects associated with product development, product and process optimization batches, and ensuring the robustness of the process and formulation.
- Train and mentor other technicians within the Formulations team.
- Work on special Formulations projects as requested.
- Coordinate and execute cleaning, process validation, and CMS technical/process operations with quality units, operations, R&D and regulatory affairs for commercial or R&D products.
- Ensure sampling and testing are completed as planned.
- Assist in writing reports and preparing master formulary records.
- Follow protocol and batch records in manufacturing development batches and relate observations to CMS Manufacturing Associates and/or R&D Formulation group.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 7+ years' experience in a pharmaceutical environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Cross-trained in manufacturing unit operations such as granulation, blending, compression, coating, and encapsulation.
- Aptitude and patience to train and develop junior technicians.
- Mechanical skills/ability required.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills essential.
- cGMP knowledge essential.
- Knowledge of analytical laboratory testing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other applications as applicable.
- Ability to travel occasionally and work weekend shifts as required.
- The physical demands include frequent sitting, use of hands and fingers, manipulating objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Must have ability to wear a respirator to work with chemicals of specified potency level.
- Occasionally move items or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds—may be larger with mechanical assistance.
- Occasionally required to climb ladders and/or steps to reach equipment.
- Reading precision measuring equipment, machine dials, gauges, and thermometers; must be able to observe fine details using a microscope.
