Material Control Operations Supervisor

The Material Control Operations Supervisor oversees employees and contractors engaged in the production and support functions for a tissue biologic product in a highly regulated, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) environment. This role provides day-to-day leadership to ensure safe operations, adherence to production standard operating procedures (SOPs), and achievement of production schedules. The supervisor fosters a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement while developing team members and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise employees and contractors involved in production and support activities related to tissue biologic products in compliance with cGMP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead the daily operation of the material control and production support area, ensuring all safety guidelines and company policies are followed at all times.
  • Ensure production SOPs are consistently upheld and that production schedules are met, adjusting plans and resources as needed to achieve operational goals.
  • Communicate new or revised policies, procedures, and processes to shift leads and personnel in a timely manner so all team members have current operational information.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with personnel at all levels to address problems, issues, and concerns promptly and at the lowest possible level.
  • Assess and document individual and team training status, working with the Supervisor and/or Manager to develop action plans to close training gaps, resolve discrepancies, and eliminate past-due training.
  • Assist the Supervisor and Manager in hiring, transferring, promoting, discharging, disciplining, and assigning work to employees in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Identify operational practices that are effective or ineffective, make recommendations to the Supervisor, and support the implementation of corrective or sustaining actions.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to provide coaching, counseling, performance feedback, and developmental support, including corrective actions when needed.
  • Promote an ownership mindset within the team so that each member feels engaged, valued, and aware of how their work contributes to the success of the processing center.
  • Ensure quality control practices are followed, including proper handling of tissue samples and adherence to cleaning, sterilization, and safety protocols.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement initiatives, including the application of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies where applicable.
  • Monitor and support compliance with quality management systems, documentation standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Cover the on-call schedule as assigned, including holidays, and support weekend work as needed to meet production and operational requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the operation and the broader organization.

Essential

Skills:

  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a cGMP or FDA-regulated environment.
  • Prior leadership experience managing teams in a production, operations, or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for understanding process technology, manufacturing equipment, and packaging equipment.
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond positively to changing conditions, priorities, situations, and personnel to meet department goals and production schedule changes.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to identify what needs to be done and reliably drive tasks to successful completion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, guide, and develop team members.
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail and accuracy in a regulated environment.
  • Effective multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of the importance and function of quality management systems.
