Qualifications
  • Previous experience in food service, dishwashing, kitchen work, hospitality, or customer service preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Washington State Food Worker’s Card required, or ability to obtain before employment.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred, or ability to obtain after hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work and operate equipment in a large, busy institutional kitchen including commercial ovens, stove, flat‑top, steamer, warming ovens, mixers, and dishwasher.

Description

Position Summary

The Food Service Assistant supports the day‑to‑day operations of the Camp Sealth kitchen during the Outdoor Education and Retreat season. This position is primarily responsible for washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, and maintaining an organized, safe, and welcoming kitchen environment following meal service. There may occasionally be opportunities to assist with basic food preparation, but the majority of the role focuses on dishwashing and kitchen cleanup.

This is a part‑time, hourly position intended for someone who lives off‑site and is available to work approximately 10–15 hours per week, primarily during and after meal service times.

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, serving utensils, and kitchen equipment following meal service.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen, dishwashing, serving, and food storage areas.
  • Sweep, mop, take out trash and recycling, and maintain overall kitchen cleanliness.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down meal service and dishwashing areas.
  • Maintain an organized dish room and kitchen workspace.
  • Put away clean dishes, kitchen equipment, and food deliveries.
  • Assist with periodic deep cleaning and kitchen organization projects.
  • Support the Food Service Director and Head Cook with additional kitchen tasks as assigned.
  • Occasionally assist with basic food preparation, such as washing or portioning ingredients.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.
  • Help create a positive, respectful, and welcoming environment for campers, guests, and fellow staff.
  • Assist with other camp operational tasks as needed.
