How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

Field Staff, Development & Engineering Services are responsible for various field operations, monitoring and data collection activities, routine maintenance work, and general construction duties in support of TRCA’s environmental research, inventory and monitoring programs and projects.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists with fish and benthic invertebrates sampling, water quality data collection (e.g., collect water samples), sediment samples collection and other aquatic habitat data collection using standardized protocols
  • Assists in wildlife and fish management activities such as goose counts, egg oiling and round-up for relocation, and sea lamprey counts and removal as part of sea lamprey trap operation
  • Assist s with field observations, data recording, and management and specimen collection
  • Participates in daily safety meetings, including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning
  • Assists with monitoring activities, including data entry and management, records management, data analysis, report writing, and other duties, as assigned
  • Assists with environmental data QA/QC and entry/input
  • Use various types of monitoring equipment, including: boats; GPS units; hand-held water quality instruments (e.g., turbidity meter); water level, flow and temperature loggers/meters; and biological sampling equipment such as electrofisher units (backpack) and various types of nets

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Minimum pursuing post-secondary diploma or degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related field
  • Valid Class G2 driver’s license

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment
  • Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
  • Under the guidance of their supervisor, prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to resolve issues
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, Web Ex, and Share Point
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
