How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team
The Technologist, Environmental provides technical advice, planning, design, coordination and integration of monitoring data, restoration, and ecosystem management projects. The position plays a key role in the delivery of projects including wetlands, streams, forests, shoreline enhancement, meadows and invasive species projects. This role contributes to improving protection of water quality and aquatic ecosystem health, building a more robust network of green space and green infrastructure, and improving protection of natural systems.
MajorResponsibilities
- Works with teams to ensure compliance with restoration plan design, health and safety and other regulatory requirements
- Conducts site visits to monitor project start up, progress of implementation, contingency planning and close out, including contractor coordination
- Collects, organizes and executes data collection according to standardized protocols, manages databases, analyzes, compiles and extracts desktop information for dissemination and project planning
- Analyzes data and performs QA/QC ensuring data integrity, troubleshoots issues where they arise
- Schedules and implements restoration and management activities for a number of programs and projects across the jurisdiction
- Undertakes tracking and scheduling of monitoring activities and logistics, vehicles, equipment and staffing on a daily and monthly basis; ensuring equipment is in a state of good repair
- Monitors and maintains equipment to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the data collected
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Resource Management, Restoration Ecology, Forestry, or a related field
- Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license
- 3+ years of experience related to environmental technologist technology and resource management, restoration ecology
- Working knowledge and understanding of watershed ecosystems, limnology, natural science and - restoration techniques and monitoring
- Strong knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, fish and wildlife and habitat requirements, environmental regulatory legislation, project management and implementation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences
- Able to comprehend documentation that is technical or scientific in nature, skilled in writing technical reports or manuals
- Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines
- Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, Web Ex, and SharePoint; advanced GIS and MS Excel capabilities for analysis, data visualization
- Requires expertise in the identification and ecology of native and invasive plants
