Job SummaryThe Bench Carpenter is responsible for performing all types of construction work, from carpentry to fabrication of cabinets or concrete pouring. The incumbent may assemble modular workstations, respond to emergencies, and work with other construction trades as needed. Additional tasks include carpentry work for several days or weeks without fabricating cabinets or pouring concrete.
Major Responsibilities- Build, install, maintain and repair structures
- Read and interpret plans and drawings
- Measure, calculate and cut material
- Perform intermittent duties such as installing flooring (e.g., carpet and vinyl tiles)
- Pour concrete, work with drywall, repair ceilings and raised flooring
- Performed in a combination of indoor or outdoor environments in various weather conditions
- Required to wear proper safety attire (eyeglasses, safety boots, hard hat, reflective vest, respirator, hearing protection, harnesses)
- Must be able to work at heights on occasion and handle loads of over 44 lbs (20 kg)
- Must have an adequate toolkit for tasks
- Red Seal Carpenter certification (or equivalent provincial Journeyman Carpenter ticket)
- Ability to plan and perform all activities related to fabrication and pouring of reinforced concrete for repair and maintenance of concrete structures
- Capacity to understand and read detailed plans and sketches; prepare supply orders for various types of repair or maintenance work
- Good hand‑eye coordination, visual and auditory acuity
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Experience, education, skills or knowledge that support the above duties is an asset
The incumbent is not required to attend any training.
