Starting salary to commence at $75,900 - $97,020 except in extenuating circumstances.
General Statement of JobResponsible for the overall operations at a City of Venice Water/Wastewater Facility in compliance with Federal, State and City (local) mandates.
City ExpectationsCertain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential FunctionsResponsible for the overall safe and efficient operations of a City of Venice water/wastewater plant facility to ensure quality service to customers. Responsible in work to the Utilities Director or designee.
Minimum Education and TrainingHigh school graduate or equivalent with seven (7) years' experience in overall plant operations in an applicable utility facility. Must possess and maintain a Florida Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License. Experience in supervision is also required. Supervision as defined here, means that your primary duty is routinely managing employees who report directly to you, where you have the duty to assign and direct their work, evaluate their performance, counsel them, discipline them and set individual goals for them.
Also, you have the authority to hire or fire them, or your suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status are given particular weight.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations or ability to obtain an in‑state license within thirty (30) days from date of hire.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Skill RequirementsKnowledge of practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of a utility plant facility. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Possess excellent listening, speaking and communication skills; understand and follow applicable federal, state and local regulations; maintain records, and prepare reports legibly and accurately. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions connected with this type of work.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, regulatory agency representatives and the general public.
Requires a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with Central Square Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Department.
