A Sheet Metal Technician III performs advanced and complex repair, fabrication, and modification of aircraft components in accordance with approved technical data. This role serves as a subject matter resource within maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, taking ownership of challenging structural repairs and ensuring compliance with customer, quality, and regulatory requirements. The technician operates with a high level of independence, contributes to technical problem-solving, and supports the development of less experienced team members.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform highly complex sheet metal repairs and structural restorations on a wide range of aircraft components, including non-routine and technically challenging work.
Independently assess damage and determine appropriate repair methods in accordance with OEM manuals, structural repair manuals (SRMs), and approved data.
Interpret and apply complex technical data, drawings, and specifications to execute repairs with a high degree of accuracy and judgment.
Set up and operate fabricating machines and specialized tooling required for advanced repair work.
Fabricate and modify complex parts and assemblies, ensuring conformance to tight tolerances and engineering requirements.
Remove and install fasteners such as rivets, bolts, and specialty hardware, including more complex or precision applications.
Execute advanced blending, smoothing, and finishing to meet tight tolerances and surface specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical discrepancies, determining root cause and implementing effective solutions.
Serve as a technical resource to Level I and II technicians, providing guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training.
Review work performed by others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
Collaborate closely with engineering and quality teams to address non-routine repairs, develop repair approaches, and improve processes.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and standard work.
Ensure accurate and thorough completion of all required documentation, including work orders and production records.
Maintain compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
8 years of relevant sheet metal or structural repair experience.
Or Bachelor’s degree in lieu of 3 years experience
Experience in aviation or aerospace environments
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
Advanced knowledge of sheet metal tools, equipment, and repair techniques.
Demonstrated ability to perform complex repairs independently with minimal supervision.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a regulated environment.
High level of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in an aerospace MRO or FAA Part 145 repair station.
Familiarity with aircraft structural repair manuals (SRMs).Experience working with a variety of aerospace materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.
Prior formal training or certification in sheet metal or aircraft structures.
Experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians.
OTHER:
