The City of Ventura is seeking a visually creative and collaborative Graphics Specialist I/II to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the City’s visual communications by designing high-quality print and digital materials that support City programs, services, events, outreach, and initiatives.
From brochures and annual reports to social media graphics, signage, and marketing materials, you’ll transform ideas and design engaging visual communications that inform, educate, and inspire.

This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level depending on the qualifications of the incumbent and the staffing needs of the City.
Key Responsibilities Include:Design and produce brochures, flyers, posters, banners, reports, forms, maps, logos, and other print and digital communication materials.
Meet with City staff to understand project goals, develop creative concepts, and deliver designs that meet department needs.
Create layouts, illustrations, graphics, and visual content that align with City branding and design standards.
Prepare artwork and files for digital publication, commercial printing, and online distribution.
Coordinate graphic production from concept through final product, including working with outside vendors.
Manage multiple graphic design projects simultaneously while maintaining production schedules and meeting deadlines.
Photograph events, facilities, and projects for use in publications, presentations, websites, and promotional materials.
Organize, archive, and manage digital artwork, photographs, and graphic assets for future use.
Maintain and troubleshoot graphic design software and stay current with emerging design trends, technology, and industry best practices.
Review and proof all work to ensure accuracy, consistency, quality, and compliance with City standards before final production
– Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an experienced graphic designer who creates engaging print and digital communications that are visually appealing, accurate, and aligned with organizational branding. They are creative, detail-oriented, and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently delivering high-quality work within established deadlines.
The successful candidate will have:
Experience and be proficient on the Mac platform designing professional print and digital communications using Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
A strong understanding of graphic design principles, including typography, layout, color theory, branding, and print production.
Experience preparing files for commercial printing, digital publishing, and web applications.
The ability to coordinate projects from initial concept through final production while collaborating effectively with internal customers and stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain digital assets, prioritize competing assignments, and exercise sound judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to adapt to new technology, software, and evolving graphic design trends.
Experience with Civic Plus, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint is highly desirable.
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, or a related field is highly desirable.
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by college-level courses in graphic design or computer graphics, and one year of computerized graphics design experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required.
