To fill a current vacancy for Language Assessment Technician (Bilingual Preferred - English/Spanish), 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 3:00pm (30 minute unpaid break), 185 days per year in the Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department at the Education Service Center, and to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. The established eligibility list will remain in effect for 6 months.

Job SummaryUnder the direction of a designated Educational Services Director, travel to various TK-12 District sites to perform language assessments and testing activities; provide technical assistance and support services to students, parents, District personnel, language assessors, outside agencies, and the Educational Services department.
Education and ExperienceRequires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District’s assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate’s degree is highly desirable. One year experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an organized setting, including some experience assisting with testing activities and/or performing language assessments.
Licensesand Other Requirements
Valid California driver’s license. Some positions in this classification may require the ability to fluently speak, read, and write a designated second language.
Testing InformationThe examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.
Recruitment Process StepsApplication Screening (pass/fail). Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications and meeting Every Student Succeeds Act. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience, the supplemental questionnaire and attach the necessary education documents.
If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will determine which applicants will be invited to the performance examination.
Proficiency Exam (pass/fail), required if you do not possess a minimum of 48 college units. The proficiency exam tests applicants on Math, English and the ability to assist a student. Applicants without 48 college units must take and pass the proficiency exam to move forward to Step
2. Schedule to be determined.
Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) tentatively scheduled for XXX. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list.
New Hires – Initial Salary Placement:
The District has established criteria that recognize the education and experience new employees bring to their role. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may receive advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
- Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification).
- Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position). To be considered for advanced salary placement, upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided.
