Pool to fill part‑time instructor positions
Ventura College is seeking a part‑time instructor for the Summer 2026, Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Applicants who have previously applied for a pool in this discipline must apply again to remain eligible.
What you’ll doThe Department of Performing Arts needs an experienced costume/makeup designer and educator who can provide comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds. The role requires strong leadership, recruiting and mentoring skills and a portfolio that demonstrates professional credentials in stage, film, and television.
Essential duties- Provide academic instruction in lecture, lab or design courses and develop students’ cognitive, communication and higher‑order thinking skills through assignments, projects, discussions and examinations.
- Advise and instruct students on study skills, programs of study, other higher‑education institutions and perform referrals to support services and resources.
- Observe and evaluate student performance, provide timely feedback, and respond to student inquiries in class, online or during office hours.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with faculty, college and district goals.
- Maintain current, accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related reports in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software and tools in collaboration with faculty; order materials following campus bookstore procedures.
- Revise and update course content and instructional materials based on new theory, application and industry developments.
- Update syllabi and collaborate with faculty to refine measurable student performance indicators for each course.
- Participate in curriculum and program development and contribute to the development of student learning outcomes.
- Attend and participate on committees, meetings, and related professional activities.
- Provide work direction to others as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance.
- OR Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance combined with a Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience and other accomplishments.
- All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
- Possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential is also acceptable.
Instructors are employed under the Education Code sections 87482.5 and may be hired up to 67% of a full‑time assignment.
