To fill two different current vacancies (8 hours per day, 12 months per year) & (7 hours per day, 181 days per year) itinerant assignments in Ventura Unified School District schools, and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the assigned Administrator, Specialist and/or the classroom teacher, assist with the monitoring, coordination and implementation of Intensive Behavior Interventions involving Applied Behavior Analysis leading to Discrete Trial Teaching, Pivotal Response Teaching, Floor Time, Incidental Teaching and other methods while working with individuals with exceptional needs.

Education & Experience

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of college (48 units) or passing the District’s assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate’s degree is highly desirable. Requires three years of experience working with students with exceptional needs, including experience in an inclusion setting and/or Special Day Class.

Licenses

& Other Requirements
  • A valid California driver’s license.
  • Completion of the VUSD or Ventura County SELPA Intensive Behavior Intervention (IBI) certification training (including successful completion of extended mentoring program), or equivalent training/certification (e.g., 14 hours of Applied Behavior Analysis training or Registered Behavior Technician training).
  • Completion of Non‑Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (NCPI) training and yearly refresher courses; employees must fulfill certification requirement prior to completion of the six‑month probationary period.
  • Completion of the Ventura County SELPA Autism Certification Program or AFIRM online modules is recommended and preferred for this classification (but not required).
  • Some incumbents may be required to speak, read and write in a designated second language.
Testing Information

The examination process may include multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam or a combination of appropriate assessments.

  • Step 1:
    Application Screening
    – Evaluate education, training, and experience. Successful applicants will be notified to schedule a qualifications appraisal interview.
  • Step 2:
    Qualifications Appraisal Interview
    – All applicants must achieve a passing score; tentative dates are July 22 2026 for initial interview and July 28‑29 2026 for final interviews.
  • Additional Salary Information

    New hires may receive advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on qualifying experience and education, subject to approval.

    • Additional qualifying experience beyond entry requirements (up to one step for each two years of related experience).
    • Additional education at the college level beyond entry requirements (up to one step for each two years of related education).

    All new hires placed at Step 1 will advance to Step 2 after completing the six‑month probationary period. Longevity increments increase base salary at specified service milestones. Promotional and/or transfer candidates are placed at appropriate steps per Personnel Commission rules.

    • Education incentives: AA/AS = 2.5 %, BA/BS = 4.0 %, MA/MS = 5.0 %, Ed.D./Ph.D./JD = 6.0 %.
