- Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking skills through appropriate assignments and activities in one‑on‑one, classroom, and distance‑mediated settings.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong‑learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to appropriate support services and professionals.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback to inquiries in class, online, or during consultation office hours.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals; implement the student‑performance objectives listed on the official course outline of record.
- Maintain current, accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports promptly.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials following campus bookstore procedures to ensure timely delivery.
- Revise and update course content and instructional materials in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the discipline or area of specialization.
- Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty to assess and revise measurable performance indicators for each course.
- May participate in curriculum and program development and provide input into the development of student‑learning outcomes.
- May attend and participate on committees and in department, division, campus, and district meetings.
- May participate in articulation and matriculation activities.
- May provide work direction to others.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Master’s in geography OR Bachelor’s in geography plus Master’s in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography OR possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline. All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.
Salary and BenefitsPart‑time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,408 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load. Salary is based on educational achievement and relevant experience; further advancement is based on longevity and educational growth. Salary is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers and the Ventura County Community College District.
