Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) is a Native American, tribally‑owned small business and a full‑service, multi‑discipline environmental, engineering, and construction support company wholly‑owned by the Oneida Nation.

We serve federal and civilian agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and state and local customers.

SRS is seeking a Mid‑Level Geologist, Engineer, or Environmental Scientist focused on Technical Writing to support environmental restoration projects at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

This position may be in one of our offices (Ventura, San Diego, Santa Barbara, or Walnut Creek, California; or Atlanta, Georgia) or potentially be hybrid or remote, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and preference. Remote employees are subject to company approval.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead development of high‑quality technical and regulatory documents including work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality control plans, technical memos, investigation reports, feasibility studies, and decision documents in support of CERCLA and RCRA projects.
  • Serve as a principal author for complex environmental documents, developing sound deliverables from project understanding, regulatory drivers, and site history without relying on templates.
  • Apply strong knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, and related federal and state regulations to ensure documents meet project objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Coordinate and streamline document development across multidisciplinary teams, integrating input from technical staff, GIS specialists, editors, project managers, subcontractors, and subject matter experts.
  • Support projects involving multiple USACE districts, US Air Force, EPA regions, and other federal or state agencies, understanding varying client expectations and document requirements.
  • Manage document production schedules, comment resolution, quality reviews, and final deliverable preparation to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Review and synthesize information from field activities, historical reports, databases, permits, and prior investigations to support project strategy and technical evaluations.
  • Assist with field‑work preparation including coordination of subcontractors, procurement of materials and equipment, scheduling support, and preparation of field documentation.
  • Provide technical and editorial review of project documents and proposals to ensure quality, completeness, and technical excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and technical leads to support project execution, client communication, regulatory coordination, schedule management, and successful achievement of objectives.
  • Demonstrate initiative, ownership, and passion for technical writing and continuous improvement of project delivery processes.
  • Review and compile information from multiple sources (field data, historical reports) to further site/project understanding and develop conceptual site models.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering, or related environmental science field with 7‑10+ years’ experience, OR Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and editing CERCLA/RCRA technical documents such as RI/FS reports, work plans, decision documents, and technical memos.
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and document management skills with the ability to produce high‑quality deliverables independently.
  • Experience supporting projects for USACE districts, EPA regions, DoD or other federal agencies preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and communicate findings clearly to project teams, clients, and regulators.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and consistency with proven analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • U.S. citizenship capable of passing a federal background check.
