This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of patient-specific medical implants by creating precise Solid Works models, supporting 3D printing activities, and preparing prototypes for molding. You will collaborate closely with engineers and physicians, translating CT scan data into accurate designs that support high-quality medical device manufacturing in a stable, small-company environment.
Responsibilities
* Create detailed 3D models and drawings in Solid Works for patient-specific implants based on CT scans of patient anatomy.
* Collaborate with engineers and physicians to interpret clinical and technical requirements and translate them into accurate design solutions.
* Review and refine CAD designs to ensure they meet functional, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
* Operate and monitor 3D printers to produce prototypes of patient-specific implants and related components.
* Prepare 3D printed prototypes for the molding department, including cleaning, finishing, and organizing parts for downstream processes.
* Use CAD and drafting tools to generate clear, complete, and accurate technical documentation and drawings.
* Utilize laser scanning and related tools, as needed, to support the creation and refinement of CAD models.
* Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of design work, revisions, and prototype builds in accordance with internal procedures.
* Communicate effectively with cross-functional team members to resolve design issues and support continuous improvement.
* Follow established workflows and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and traceability in all design and drafting activities.
Essential Skills
* Proficiency with Solid Works for 3D modeling and drafting.
* Hands-on experience or strong willingness to work directly with 3D printers and printed parts.
* Strong CAD and drafting skills, including the ability to produce clear and accurate technical drawings.
* Good documentation skills, with the ability to record design details, revisions, and prototype information clearly and accurately.
* Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, physicians, and other technical team members.
* Comfort working with patient-specific anatomical data derived from CT scans and translating it into precise designs.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience with 3D printing processes and preparation of printed parts for downstream manufacturing steps.
* Familiarity with laser scanners and their use in supporting CAD modeling and design refinement.
* Experience or training in drafting, design, or a related technical discipline.
* Experience in a medical device, manufacturing, or product development environment.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
Work Environment
You will work in a small, stable medical device manufacturing environment that focuses on patient-specific implants and advanced design workflows. The role involves both computer-based CAD work and hands-on activities with 3D printers and prototypes. You will use Solid Works and other CAD tools, 3D printers, and laser scanning equipment to support design and prototyping. The position typically follows standard business hours, with work performed in an office and lab or shop setting where collaboration with engineers and physicians is frequent.
The environment supports long-term career growth and offers the opportunity to see your design work directly contribute to meaningful medical applications.
