The Mortgage Lending Officer role is a developing professional position that identifies policy and applies specialty knowledge in monitoring and assessing processes and data. OverviewCiti Bank Retail Mortgage provides home lending services via Citibank branches and centralized service centers. The Home Lending Officer is responsible for originating high‑quality residential real‑estate loans for clients. The position engages internally with retail branch partners, operations, community business development officers, and externally with clients, real‑estate agents, and referral sources to drive mortgage sales and strengthen client relationships.
Responsibilities- Consult with customers about their financial situation, personal objectives, and lending needs to help them achieve home‑ownership goals.
- Collect and analyze information about customers’ financial situation, goals, risk tolerance, future plans, income, assets, debts, cash flow, and credit history.
- Make an initial assessment of whether the customer and property qualify for a particular lending solution.
- Recommend lending solutions that best meet customers’ financial and personal objectives.
- Adviseto customers about the consequences, risks, and benefits of alternative lending solutions.
- Promote Citi’s brand and financial services to real‑estate agencies, builders, other referral sources, and customers.
- Visit customers outside of Citi’s offices as needed based on clientele, geography, market conditions, and other factors.
- Collaborate with internal partners to support and grow the customer base.
- Refer customers who require services other than lending solutions to the appropriate Citi professionals.
- Partner with Operations teams to ensure seamless transfer of the loan application, providing documents to Processors and acquiring additional information needed by Processors and/or Underwriters.
- Work with Processors/Closers and customers to ensure timely closing of the loan.
- Engage key referral relationships (Realtors, CPAs, Builders, etc.) to grow mortgage business for the bank.
- Introduce clients to segment partners when appropriate (e.g., Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards).
- Stay abreast of local marketplace trends and regulatory changes, expanding the internal and external network to better serve clients and industry professionals.
- Assess risk appropriately in business decisions, uphold the firm’s reputation, ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations, and report control issues with transparency.
- 2‑5 years of relevant experience.
- 3+ years of previous mortgage sales experience.
- Residential Mortgage experience required.
- Established book of business.
- Proven product sales capability.
- FHA/VA & conventional loan experience preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
- Capability to communicate required documentation for specific loan programs.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations (fair lending, privacy, RESPA).
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Strong relationship development and management skills.
- Expertise in general lending products and the mortgage industry.
- Must register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (Registry) and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities.
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience.
