Systems Support Analyst I/II
Job in Finance and Technology Department. Salary: I: $63,953 – $85,697/year; II: $70,592 – $94,594/year.
OverviewUnder general supervision, performs systems programming, database administration, systems and storage administration, and manages data center environments for the operation and maintenance of systems software for the Information Technology Division. Participates in security, integrity, and efficient operation of the City’s overall data center infrastructure. Flexibly staffed at either the I or II level depending on qualifications.
Responsibilities- Provides customer service, demonstrates attentiveness, understanding, responsiveness, fairness, courtesy, and respect.
- Analyzes hardware and software performance, makes recommendations for upgrades, establishes development, training, backup and production environments.
- Identifies and corrects errors causing abnormal termination of systems software.
- Ensures application availability, restores data and files as required.
- Tests, evaluates, recommends, installs, maintains, customizes, and performs regression tests of various systems and software products.
- Configures and implements system software and definitions.
- Performs system performance management and assists in capacity planning and system upgrades.
- Ensures IT infrastructure complies with business continuity, security policies and architectural standards.
- Assists with training, system and network troubleshooting, and automating operational procedures.
- Assists IT Applications Team in diagnosing routine and complex application problems.
- Reviews vendor proposals, contracts, hardware, software, and maintenance agreements for technical accuracy; provides recommendations.
- Coordinates with vendors, including supervising and participating in installations in data center environments.
- Monitors and controls enterprise storage for efficient performance and space utilization.
- Analyzes and resolves complex systems problems, including isolation and resolution of hardware and system software issues.
- Performs database design functions, monitors database performance, ensures maintenance and recovery; supports staff in planning, designing, implementing databases, and managing storage allocation.
- Assists in design of application systems, providing technical advice on alternatives to optimize resources.
- Provides technical assistance for assigned projects and other work as required.
- Documents data center environments, operations, and systems; participates in developing standard operating procedures and formal presentations of technical recommendations.
- Provides technical project management for system software products; plans and coordinates migration testing.
- Provides on‑call assistance for data center emergencies and after‑hours support.
- Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Systems Support Analyst II only:
May serve as a lead in the absence of the supervisor; provides leadership, directs and trains team members, sets priorities, oversees quality and quantity of work, and develops work improvements.
- Will undergo and complete a post‑offer Police Department background investigation.
- Systems Support Analyst I:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, and one year of increasingly responsible enterprise‑level experience in systems and server administration, database administration, systems programming, storage administration, and datacenter operations; experience in a 24/7/365 production environment and design of datacenter environments; experience as systems administrator responsible for a functional WAN/LAN. - Systems Support Analyst II:
Same educational requirement, plus three years of increasingly responsible enterprise‑level experience in the same areas; experience in a 24/7/365 production environment, design of datacenter environments, and responsibility for WAN/LAN systems. - Information technology certifications are desirable.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license may be required depending on assignment.
