Overview
The County of Ventura Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital are part of the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) system, offering comprehensive surgical and diagnostic services. The Circulating Operating Room Nurse works under the Perioperative Services Director to ensure patient safety and procedural success.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room environment.
- Coordinate patient flow, communication and equipment for surgery.
- Assist anesthesia in patient induction, extubation and emergence.
- Apply surgical counts, time‑outs, and traffic control.
- Document events, specimens, medication, and patient status.
- Provide guidance to operating room staff and other health‑care personnel.
- Offer emotional support to patients and families.
- Transport and document specimens for laboratory testing.
- Orient new personnel to hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Graduation from an accredited nursing school and at least one year of recent full‑time perioperative experience.
- Valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification upon employment.
- Willingness and ability to take after‑hour and weekend calls.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR).
- Prior Tier 2 trauma center experience.
- Expertise in advanced perioperative care and operating room procedures.
- Strong critical thinking, leadership, collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and precise under high‑pressure and long‑hour conditions.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records.
- Educational/Bilingual
Incentives:
2.5–5% based on degree level. - Certification Pay: hourly incentive up to five certifications.
- Shift differentials:
Evening 7.5%, Night 15%, Weekend $2.00 per hour. - Charge Nurse Premium Pay: $2.50 per hour (additional $1.50 if assigned patients).
- Preceptor Pay: $2.50 per hour.
- Standby Premium Pay: ¼ of normal wage or Federal minimum wage.
- Critical Staffing Shift bonuses.
- In‑House Registry Pay: 1.75× standard for non‑overtime, 2× for overtime.
- Continuing Service Incentive Pay: 1–1.5% for tenure milestones.
- Flexible Credit Allowance. 401(k) and pension plan eligibility.
