There Are 2 Ways To Qualify For This Position

  • If you already possess:
> A valid California Class B commercial driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements; and

> A valid California Special Driver Certificate without the following restrictions: hydraulic brakes only, conventional or type 2 bus only.

  • Note:

    the air brake/transit requirement may be waived for entry into the classification. Employees must get the hydraulic brake and/or conventional restriction(s) removed prior to completion of the six-month probationary period. and
> A valid First Aid Certification issued by an authorized agency; and

> A valid DOT medical Examiners Certificate.

OR

  • If you do not have the necessary licenses, we offer paid training to assist you with obtaining the certifications required. In addition to the paid training, all certification costs are also paid by district.

THE POSITION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, drive a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school and other assigned locations along designated routes; assure safety of students during transportation activities.

THE CANDIDATE

Education And Experience

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent and experience as a school bus driver desirable.

Licenses And Other Requirements

  • Valid California Class B commercial driver’s license with passenger and, school bus endorsements.
  • Valid California Special Driver Certificate without the following restrictions: hydraulic brakes only, conventional or type 2 bus only.
The air brake/transit requirement may be waived for entry into the classification. Employees must get the hydraulic brake and/or conventional restriction(s) removed prior to completion of the six-month probationary period. This requirement may also be waived if all transportation needs are fulfilled and the department is fully staffed and does not require the need for drivers to operate a transit school bus with air brakes.
  • Valid First Aid Certification issued by an authorized agency.
  • Valid DOT medical Examiners Certificate.
THE DETAILS

TESTING INFORMATION

Step 1:
Application Screening
(pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. If applicant does not have the required experience and certifications, an invitation to participate in our training program will be issued so you may become qualified to move to the next step.

Step 2:
Qualification Appraisal Interview
(weighted 100%) A Qualification Appraisal Interview for this classification is not scheduled at this time, however applicants may access the Job Details section in this posting to check for updates.

All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.

Additional Salary Information

New Hires – Initial Salary Placement

Education

The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
  • Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
