Registered Nurse

Position:
Registered Nurse – Regular/Hourly/Non‑Exempt, Professional.

Location:

Vergennes, VT, US.

Summary of Position

Assists in administering the Center’s Health and Wellness Services Program.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Health and Wellness Services program in accordance with DOL guidelines, federal, state and city laws and regulations.
  • Oversee scheduling of sick call, infirmary coverage, and environmental health, physical and dental exams in accordance with DOL guidelines.
  • Inspect the food service facility and dormitories regularly.
  • Assist with the management of medical records and the Health Management Information System.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory control system for medication, equipment and medical supplies.
  • Conduct inventories of supplies and medications monthly.
  • Communicate with parents, legal guardians and other personnel regarding students’ health and well‑being.
  • Purchase medication and medical supplies.
  • Participate in nurses’ on‑call rotation.
  • Function as staff nurse as needed.
  • Collect data and maintain wellness monthly Utilization Report.
  • Plan, organize and control the use of overtime and on‑call staff to ensure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.
  • Model appropriate behaviors, mentor students and monitor both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous wastes generated by the health and wellness center.
Skills and Competencies
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and practices.
  • Proven ability to lead and support a team.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal laws regulating health care and patient privacy (HIPAA).
  • Strong organization skills and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Familiarity with medical needs of young adults.
  • Meticulous documentation/recording skills and attention to detail; excellent time management.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑changing environment.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and computer software including MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Experience
  • Three years of experience as a practicing nurse.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
