Seeking a dynamic professional with the ability to design, organize, and articulate a multi-year vision for the Music Industry and Technology curriculum that aligns with current industry demands. The successful candidate will teach courses that may include: intro to music technology, advanced sound production and recording, music industry business and law, leading a contemporary music ensemble, and others as assigned based on experience and knowledge, as well as track graduate outcomes and align course competencies with transferable skills necessary for immediate professional employment.
In addition, the candidate will manage the light, sound, and recording requirements of the Music Department's performances spaces, including the training and supervising of student workers in these areas. Secondary responsibilities may include but are not limited to: applied studio lessons, committee work, supervising independent studies, or other projects as appropriate to the appointee's qualifications and departmental needs. As part of a normal workload, you may be asked to teach online courses.
Excellence in teaching and recruiting is expected - both in the classroom, on the campus, and in the greater community. Appointment begins August 22, 2026.
Bachelor's degree in a music technology related field and relevant music industry experience required. Masters / Doctorate preferred. Terminal degree would be required for a tenure track position. Candidates must show demonstrated proficiency in at least one digital audio workstation, such as Logic Pro or Ableton Live, experience in digital music production, including recording, mixing, etc., success in teaching and recruiting.
Instrumental performance and teaching experience is preferred. Desired instruments include: bassoon, guitar, oboe, piano, trumpet, or other woodwinds.

The Department of Music offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Musical Arts, as well as a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Industry and Technology. Master of Music degrees are offered in Music Education, Music Performance, Music History, Conducting, Collaborative Piano, and the History of Musical Instruments. The National Music Museum, is associated with the Department of Music at the University of South Dakota.
