Grants Accountant

The Grants Accountant position is a State of South Dakota funded, Career Service, Overtime Eligible position in the University of South Dakota’s Department of Grants Accounting. The role is responsible for assisting with post-award financial management and administration of externally-funded grants and contracts. This includes oversight of post-award activity for sponsored projects from federal, state, non-profit and corporate entities, according to federal, state, and university policies.

The incumbent will be responsible for post-award grant, fund, and budget coding in the financial system, budget and expenditure monitoring, financial management of award reimbursements/revenue, processing tuition remission on grants, monitoring indirect revenue distribution, requesting federal line of credit reimbursements, and assisting with data collection and preparation of financial reports.

The successful candidate will have:

• Knowledge of federal and state laws and rules as they relate to finance and grants management;
  Knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, accounting principles and financial analysis;
  Proficiency in computer applications with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook;
  Experience with the Banner Financial System is desirable.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and files, both electronic and manual;
  Ability to effectively communicate information;
  Ability to research and interpret applicable rules, statutes and policies;
  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and entities.
• The abilities to take initiative, be self‑directed, and work well independently;
  Ability to adapt processes and procedures to maintain financial compliance and prevent audit risks as changes in government and technology occur frequently;
  Ability to maintain a positive attitude, attention to detail, and good interpersonal skills. A baccalaureate degree is preferred; however, combinations of experience and education will be considered.
