The Digital Accessibility Specialist helps ensure that university technology, digital content, and services are accessible to all users. This position provides support and training on assistive technology, evaluates digital content for accessibility compliance, and partners with departments across campus to promote accessibility best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Support students, faculty, and staff in the use of assistive technology software and hardware.
- Provide training and guidance on assistive technology tools and accessibility best practices.
- Evaluate and remediate digital documents, web content, and other electronic materials to meet ADA and WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA standards.
- Train university employees on creating accessible digital content and conducting basic accessibility evaluations.
- Conduct accessibility testing of websites, applications, and digital resources using automated and manual testing methods.
- Review VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) and assess software and technology purchases for accessibility compliance.
- Collaborate with Information Technology Services and campus departments to address accessibility concerns before technology is implemented.
- Stay current with accessibility standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supporting assistive technology and accessibility initiatives.
- Knowledge of ADA requirements and WCAG 2.1/2.2 accessibility standards.
- Strong communication, training, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in higher education.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies, accessibility testing tools, and document remediation.
- Experience reviewing VPATs and conducting accessibility assessments.
- IAAP certification ( CPACC , WAS , or similar) preferred.
