TITLE:

Diversion/Teen Court Youth Development Professional

MISSION:

To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Teen Court Youth Development Professional (YDP) supports the Boys & Girls Club’s diversion programming by working directly with youth referred to Teen Court. This role focuses on providing mentorship, accountability, and guidance while fostering positive behavior change. The YDP helps ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for participants while reinforcing the Club’s mission of helping all youth reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Supervise and mentor youth referred to the Teen Court program.
  • Provide real-time redirection and support to youth displaying challenging behaviors.
  • Implement evidence-based behavior strategies to promote safety, de-escalate situations, and encourage positive outcomes.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with youth, modeling appropriate behavior, resilience, and healthy choices.
  • Support all diversion program requirements, including restorative justice activities, peer jury proceedings, community service tracking, and skill-building workshops.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, families, and schools to strengthen program impact.
  • Assist during daily programming, particularly with youth needing additional supervision or redirection.
  • Collaborate with staff, families, and schools to develop individualized Success Plans.
  • Facilitate Success Plan meetings with families to identify supports, goals, and next steps.
  • Document, track, and update Medical & Success Plans while ensuring timely communication with staff.
  • Monitor member progress and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of members’ plans, interventions, and strategies for support.
  • Train and coach staff on proactive behavior management techniques.
  • Serve as a resource during programming, offering additional support to staff as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth on-site and during off-site activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming Club environment for all members.
  • Communicate regularly with the Diversion Coordinator regarding participant progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth participation, service hours, and program outcomes.
  • Provide daily feedback to supervisor with observations and suggestions for improvement.
  • Attend 100% of monthly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings.
  • Participate in trainings, special programs, and Club events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED required, some college coursework in human services, social work, education, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with teens in a youth development, educational, or justice-related setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate youth.
  • Ability to remain calm, fair, and professional when addressing challenging behavior.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends to support Teen Court proceedings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals.
  • Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift.
  • Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
  • This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
