The Estimator is responsible for converting inbound and outbound opportunities into profitable, well‑scoped projects across all Sprague Construction divisions. This role blends client-facing sales, technical estimating, and proposal development to ensure accurate pricing, clear expectations, and strong handoffs to division leaders.
This position protects margins, accelerates revenue, and ensures every project enters production with clarity, documentation, and client alignment.
Primary Responsibilities Sales & Client Engagement• Serve as the first point of contact for new leads across Construction, Stonework, Driveways N More, Electrical, Propane, and Small Engine/Fleet.
• Conduct site visits, gather scope details, and identify client needs.
• Present Sprague’s value, process, and division capabilities with professionalism and confidence.
• Maintain a warm, consistent communication cadence with prospects until close.
• Track all leads, follow‑ups, and conversions in the CRM.
• Prepare accurate, defensible estimates for:
- General construction
- Stonework and hardscapes
- Driveways and excavation
- Electrical and generator installs
- Propane service work
- Small engine/fleet repairs
• Identify risks, unknowns, and contingencies and communicate them clearly.
• Produce branded, professional proposals aligned with Sprague’s standards.
• Ensure all estimates meet margin targets set by the Owner/Finance Director. Internal Coordination
• Work directly with division leaders to confirm scope, feasibility, and scheduling.
• Provide clean handoff packets including:
- Scope summary
- Materials list
- Labor expectations
- Client notes
- Photos and site conditions
• Support the DOO in forecasting labor and material needs based on upcoming jobs. Quality, Documentation & Process
• Maintain accurate job costing records for post‑project review.
• Update pricing templates as market conditions change.
• Ensure all proposals reflect Sprague’s policies, boundaries, and client expectations.
• Uphold a consistent, branded client experience across all divisions.
- Strong communication and client‑facing presence
- Technical understanding of construction, stonework, electrical, propane, and equipment

Supports:
All Sprague Construction divisions
- Proposal accuracy and margin protection
- Lead‑to‑close conversion rate
- On‑time proposal delivery
- Clean handoffs with minimal change orders
- Positive client feedback and repeat business
- 3+ years in construction, site work, hardscapes, or related trades
- Experience preparing estimates, scopes of work, or proposals
- Proven track record in sales, client engagement, or project development
- Ability to read site conditions, identify risks, and communicate them clearly
Candidates must demonstrate working knowledge in at least two of the following areas, with willingness to learn the rest:
- General construction & carpentry
- Excavation, drainage, and driveway systems
- Stonework, hardscapes, and landscape construction
- Electrical systems, generators, or service work
- Propane systems, tanks, and service calls
- Small engine, equipment, or fleet repair (basic understanding)
- Strong communication and client‑facing presence
- High accuracy in estimating and scope writing
- Ability to manage multiple leads, follow‑ups, and deadlines
- Organized, detail‑oriented, and consistent with documentation
- Comfortable using CRM systems, mobile apps, and digital proposal tools
- Ability to work collaboratively with division leaders and the DOO
- Professionalism, reliability, and strong follow‑through
- Ability to conduct site visits in all seasons
- Ability to take measurements, photos, and site notes
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to safely navigate active job sites
- Self‑motivated with strong time management
- Comfortable working independently and in a structured system
- Commitment to margin protection and accurate estimating
- Ability to maintain a positive, professional client experience
