Job Description

Alburgh Community Education Center seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades PreK-8th Grade and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. The music teacher will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments.

Salary is in accordance with the current Master Agreement and salary schedule $50,000 - $93,200, based upon education and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach general music to PreK-8th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Provide opportunities for music ensembles.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct students in three musical programs for school and community (Winter Music Festival, Evening with the Arts).
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develop and refine music curriculum based on standards of creating, performing, and responding.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group so that everyone can contribute.
  • Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Cooperate with Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
