Internal posting - Shelburne Community School and District-Wide only. This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration.
Shelburne Community School (SCS) is seeking a creative and collaborative part-time Choreographer to join our school community for the 2026–2027 school year. In this role, you will partner with the current Artistic Team (Director and Music director) as the third leg of our production team for our upcoming middle school musical production. We are looking for an individual who can create age-appropriate movement and dance routines tailored to varying student skill levels while fostering an encouraging, fun, and inclusive environment for middle school performers.
This is a part-time, co-curricular Category C stipend position. Rehearsals are traditionally scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday afternoons from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM, extending until 5:00 PM as the show approaches during tech week. Attendance at production team meetings prior to auditions, as well as evening and weekend performances during the run of the production, is required.
Exact production dates and rehearsal schedules will be collaboratively determined by the directorial and administrative team.
- Conceive, choreograph, and teach all dance numbers, movement, and musical staging to the chorus, ensemble members, and soloists.
- Adapt choreography to be tailored and appropriate for the varying skill levels of middle school student-performers, ensuring everyone feels confident on stage.
- Lead choreography rehearsals from initial auditions through final tech week run-throughs and performances.
- Collaborate directly with the overall Director and Music Supervisor to ensure dance numbers align with the theatrical vision, score, and overall pacing.
- Assist family volunteers as needed with props, costumes, and other production needs.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, positive, and physically supportive team climate that promotes student growth, physical safety, and well-being.
- Demonstrated background in dance instruction, theatrical choreography, or dance education; experience working with middle school-aged youth is highly valued.
- Proven ability to design creative, accessible choreography suited for diverse skill levels, ranging from beginner middle school performers to experienced dancers.
- Strong communication, instructional, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with students, the artistic team, and family volunteers.
- High-level dependability, patience, energy, and a passion for helping young people express themselves creatively through movement.
- A commitment to inclusivity, helping to develop a theatrical environment that represents and welcomes all students and families.
Please apply via School Spring to Brett Cluff, SCS Principal, with a letter of interest and resume.
