The senior caller/team trainer is responsible for assisting in the coordination of the annual phonathon by serving as senior caller and trainer for the phonathon calling team in a manner that maintains high quality communication between VTSU and its constituencies. In addition, the senior caller/team trainer will serve as motivator for callers and will ensure that the calling team stays on task throughout the evening.

The ability to deal with any potential problem is vital to the success of the program. Must be able to work with and manage the callers in a manner that maintains high motivation, positive morale, and an ethical approach to fundraising.

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum of two years previous experience as a phonathon caller is required. Strong communication and motivational skills required. Must have and maintain a positive attitude, be comfortable and confident asking people for money; and be knowledgeable about activities/ events occurring at the college. Must be able to deal with a wide range of people and personality types. Handle personal information with extreme confidentiality.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Attend and participate in all training sessions.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early on scheduled work nights to prepare for calling.
  • Help the student manager set up the call center is for each calling shift, as needed.
  • Provide advice, insight, encouragement, and help to callers.
  • Reinforce group training callers received prior to start of phonathon.
  • Provide additional training and/or coaching as necessary.
  • Know and enforce policies.
  • Responsible for making calls to specialty groups, as necessary.
  • Create a fun, productive calling atmosphere.
  • Monitor the callers’ progress and make sure they stay on task throughout the night.
  • Remain visible on the calling floor throughout the shift.
  • Assist the supervisor in identifying individuals who need additional training or encouragement and offer suggestions for improvement to team members when necessary.
  • Evaluate the performance of the callers in an unbiased manner.
  • Keep the supervisor informed about disruptive callers and/or good callers.
  • Report any good tactics that result in more pledges/better calls.
  • Conduct opening meeting, share who is being called, the results of the previous calling night, evening goals, and incentive information. Keep this meeting short and concise to assure callers will have as much time on the phones as possible.
  • Conduct a productive closing meeting to discuss the evening, corrections, and acknowledge the good work that has been done throughout the evening, as necessary.
