CompensationNegotiable based upon experience and skills.
Position OverviewThe Design Assistant will play a key role in both the creative and client-facing sides of our design business. This role is ideal for someone who likes to help people, is organized and likes improving on systems and processes, and is comfortable using or learning software like CAD and Canva. The role is full or part-time - minimum 30 hours per week.
Sunday and Monday availability to be in our Waitsfield showroom most weeks is needed.
- Create a warm, welcoming showroom experience that reflects Addison West’s design aesthetic.
- Assist clients with product questions, space planning, and design direction.
- Support designers in client meetings by pulling samples, organizing materials, and capturing notes.
- Produce and update floor plans, elevations, and layouts using CAD or similar software.
- Build digital design boards and presentations that clearly communicate design concepts.
- Prepare RFQs, create purchase orders, and track orders from confirmation through delivery.
- Maintain project folders, files and procurement lists.
- Communicate with vendors to manage lead times, changes, and issue resolution.
- Manage the design sample library and support tracking of design-specific inventory.
- Assist with proposals, budgets, presentations, scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Lead select design projects with support from a lead designer.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities at once.
- A proactive problem solver who looks for solutions—not just instructions.
- Flexible and relaxed in a fast-moving environment where no two days look the same.
- Detail-oriented, with strong follow-through and clear communication.
- Equally happy behind a screen creating drawings or on the floor fluffing pillows, or moving furniture around (able to move chairs and other product weighing 40 lbs.)
- A team player who brings curiosity, warmth, and a pitch-in mindset to everything you do.
- You’ll be part of a collaborative, design-driven team that values creativity, care, and continuous improvement.
