Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) is seeking a Hospitalist Physician to join our highly respected Hospital Medicine team in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom. About

This Role

As a Hospitalist Physician at NVRH, you will provide comprehensive inpatient care across our 20-bed Medical‑Surgical Unit and open 4‑bed ICU while working alongside dedicated physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and care coordinators. This position offers the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population while practicing the full scope of hospital medicine.

Our Hospital Medicine team utilizes a 3‑physician rotation model and offers scheduling flexibility with both day and night coverage options:

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Night Shift: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 1800 contract hours annually
  • Flexible scheduling with opportunities for mostly days, mostly nights, or dedicated night coverage
  • Dedicated Nurse Practitioner support from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, assisting with admissions and patient rounding

Candidates must be comfortable practicing independently and managing ventilated patients. Procedural skills are not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care, including diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, preventive care, and health maintenance.
  • Manage admissions, inpatient care, and discharge planning while collaborating with patients, families, primary care providers, and specialists.
  • Respond to rapid response events and code situations while providing clinical leadership and support to interdisciplinary teams.
  • Review diagnostic studies, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and coordinate referrals when appropriate.
  • Participate in peer review, quality improvement activities, provider meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE)
  • Minimum one year of Hospitalist experience required
  • Current Vermont Medical License or ability to obtain one
  • Current Vermont DEA Certificate or ability to obtain one
  • BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ventilator management
