  • Ameri Corps Slot Classification: 900 hours - this is the minimum number of hours the selected candidate must serve throughout the duration of their position.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

Preference given to applicants who submit applications before Sunday, February 15, 2026. Applications will be reviewed after the Final date to receive applications passes. Positions will close after receiving 60 complete applications, or at 11:59 p.m. EST on February 15, 2026, whichever occurs first.

PURPOSE

This Education Assistant is an Ameri Corps position. The role supports community science programs (salamander, phenology, and dragonfly mercury monitoring) at the parks. It provides the park with critical data to inform management decisions in the face of environmental change, and supports communication, engagement, and involvement of the public. The position also contributes to forest health monitoring to inform resource management at our park and the overall trends in forest regeneration in the face of multiple stressors.

DESCRIPTION

OF DUTIES

The position is part of a two‑park Natural Resource Management, Science Communication and Education team with technical support from the Northeast Temperate Network.

  • Coordinate community science efforts at the parks, assisting programs for school groups, volunteers, and park staff to coordinate monitoring events.
  • Develop educational resources, facilitate lessons, and lead field trips about the parks’ community science projects.
  • Assist with forest health monitoring: develop strong tree/plant identification skills, create staff training resources, and collect data with the natural resource team.
  • Assist with various natural resource projects, youth and family summer programs, leading field trip groups, and science communication at the parks.
DELIVERABLES
  • Coordinate community science monitoring programs: lead monitoring events, educational programs, data collection and stewardship, maintain calendar, websites, spreadsheets, and generate seasonal reports.
  • Develop educational resources for schools.
  • Create a forest health training packet for future staff use.
  • Assist in developing and leading summer youth and family lessons/activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or will obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent before using the education award.
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check for the employer of record, Conservation Legacy, and a separate government security background check for the host site prior to starting the position.
  • Available to participate for the entire 26 Weeks in order to be considered and participate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in environmental education, community science, and forested ecosystems, and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental education, forestry, environmental studies, natural resources, science communication, or a similar field.
