Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Science Teaching Position
Location: East Burke

Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), an elite ski academy located in East Burke, VT, is seeking a full-time science teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will teach core science courses for grades 9-12, including Biology and Physics, as well as additional science, math, or social science elective courses based on experience and expertise.

BMA’s academic program is intentionally designed to support the development of world-class alpine ski racers and lifelong learners. The program emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and strong communication skills across all disciplines. Successful teachers at BMA demonstrate flexibility and creativity in designing and delivering instruction for student-athletes who frequently travel for training and competition. In lieu of traditional end-of-term grades, faculty write individualized narrative evaluations focused on each student’s personal growth.

Faculty at BMA lead by example — designing curriculum to spark curiosity, engaging with students in lively Dining Hall discussions, joining workouts, participating in our many long-standing athletic traditions, volunteering on race days, and cultivating a vibrant student life in a residential community.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 3-4 preps in core science and elective courses
  • Provide narrative-based feedback for students
  • Participate in weekly faculty meetings and collaborate with a small faculty team to co-create project-based and experiential learning curriculum across all courses
  • Design curriculum for both in-person and asynchronous learning that aligns with a unique athletic calendar
  • Advise approximately four students
  • Perform the requisite number of weekday and weekend duties required of all faculty and staff as part of a residential school community
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM field
  • High school teaching experience
Compensation and Benefits
  • Medical insurance
  • A season ski pass at Burke Mountain and Kingdom Trails, and access to on-site athletic facilities
  • On-campus housing pending availability
  • Meals when the Dining Hall is in service
