Job DescriptionSt. Johnsbury School District is seeking a Special Educator to join the school team for the next school year. The district serves more than 1,000 students from Pre‑K through 8th grade and tuition high school students to several area public and independent high schools. The district has approximately 550 students in Pre‑K to Grade 8 and about 200 full‑time employees. We offer an excellent outdoor educational space, new playgrounds, and a team that prioritizes employee wellness.
Qualifications

Special Educators must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and Special Education license (or be able to be endorsed in Special Education).

Principal(s) and the Director of Student Support Services.
General Responsibilities
:
Special Educators work collaboratively with classroom teachers, para educators, parents, related service providers, guidance counselors, community agencies, consultants, and one another to ensure the needs of a diverse student population are met.
Specific
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide modeling, tools, strategies, consultation, and collaboration with teachers and para educators and other staff for implementing effective instructional, behavioral, and social skills plans for students with identified needs.
- Offer direct instruction to individual students and small groups both in and outside the classroom.
- Deliver student IEP services, accommodations, and data collection procedures.
- Complete formal and informal assessments to determine instructional needs.
- Participate in school‑wide assessment procedures.
- Assist with development and implementation of 504 plans and other educational plans on an annual basis or as agreed upon by the student’s team.
- Coordinate students’ educational schedules.
- Provide consultation, daily supervision, and modeling/training to para educators.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and clarify school procedures and processes.
- Participate in curriculum review and development.
- Stay current with research, legal requirements, best practices, technology, instructional content, Title I, ESL, Act 230, Section 504, and attend required training.
- Comply with the Vermont Special Education Regulations.
- Support transitions for students between service providers, grades, schedules, schools, and programs focused on instructional needs.
- Adhere to confidentiality policies.
- Inform the Director or Assistant Director of Student Support Services of program activities and status.
- Attend department meetings and other team meetings as assigned.
- Develop substitute plans in cases of absence.
Salary follows the Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based on years of experience and educational level. Teachers earn vested status in the State Teacher's Pension after five years of service. The school year comprises 186 days; teachers receive 15 sick days, 4 emergency days, 5 personal days, and 5 bereavement days. BCBS of Vermont provides health insurance with employer contributions: first $1,900 for single coverage or $4,000 for multi‑person plans for out‑of‑pocket costs, plus 100% of prescription costs.
