Job DescriptionThe Special Education Academic Evaluator serves as a key member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team. This role is responsible for conducting formal academic achievement testing using the WIAT-4 to determine eligibility for special education services, inform IEP development, and assist in the identification of specific learning disabilities. You will work closely with the School Psychologist, Speech‑Language Pathologists, and Special Educators to provide a comprehensive picture of a student’s learning profile.
The position is part time and hours are flexible.
- Assessment Administration: Conduct 1:1 administration of the WIAT-4 and other standardized academic assessments across domains (Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Oral Language).
- Interpretation & Analysis: Analyze raw data and standard scores to identify patterns of strengths and weaknesses.
- Comprehensive Reporting: Write clear, professional evaluation reports that translate complex data into actionable recommendations for classroom teachers and families.

Collaboration:
Participate in Evaluation Planning Team (EPT) meetings and Eligibility meetings to present findings and contribute to the determination of "Adverse Effect" and "Need for Specially Designed Instruction." - Observation: Conduct classroom observations to see how academic deficits manifest in the general education environment.
- Compliance: Ensure all evaluations are completed within state and federal (IDEA) timelines and adhere to Vermont Special Education Rules.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field (preferred).
- Certification: Valid Vermont Educator License with a Special Education (7‑12) endorsement or a School Psychologist license.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in administering the WIAT-4; familiarity with other assessment tools (e.g., KTEA-3, WJ‑IV) is a plus; understanding of the Vermont Special Education eligibility.
- Skills: Strong clinical writing skills, ability to build rapport with adolescents (grades 7–12), and excellent time management and organization.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Master degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
