Job Description

Cavendish Town Elementary School (CTES) serves students in PreK through Grade 6. The K‑6 Literacy Interventionist will support student achievement in literacy using a Structured Literacy approach, providing daily intensive, evidence‑based instruction to a caseload of students requiring additional support. The role also involves monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress.

Primary

Job Duties
  • Provide evidence‑based intensive interventions using a structured literacy approach to an assigned caseload of students daily.
  • Document and communicate progress and intervention strategies with classroom teachers, the teaching and learning director/coach, and principal.
  • Maintain data on reading and literacy levels for individual intervention plans.
  • Provide information to ensure individualized, targeted, evidence‑based intensive reading instruction for students meeting federal guidelines.
  • Collect data, maintain student records, and provide timely documentation.
  • Serve as an integral part of the school’s data teams and build intervention groups collaboratively.
  • Provide reading instruction related to literacy support for identified students.
  • Provide data, planning, implementation, and monitoring support for students’ literacy intervention plans.
  • Participate in literacy professional development.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality instruction to individual students and small groups using district‑approved resources.
  • Implement instructional activities that engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Use data continuously to inform instructional decisions.
  • Prepare and submit instructional intervention plans.
  • Provide a structured, positive classroom experience that encourages critical thinking.
  • Maintain effective record‑keeping procedures including progress monitoring.
  • Ensure student growth is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and program classification.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and respectful relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Satisfy professional obligations through efficient work habits.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, peers, and leaders.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly, both orally and in writing, with students and parents.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to apply current research and theory in the science of reading; plan and implement lessons based on recent research and student needs. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and children.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience coaching and collaborating with teachers.
  • Familiarity and experience with the DIBELS 8 assessment.
  • Familiarity and experience with Fundations, Just Words, and Heggerty programs.
  • Familiarity and experience with evidence‑based frameworks for reading instruction supporting language comprehension and word‑level reading.
  • Familiarity and experience with diagnostic procedures for identifying reading and writing difficulties.
  • Experience writing and teaching curriculum using backward design and UDL.
  • Experience collaborating and problem‑solving with teachers.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s Degree preferred;
    Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Valid or eligible for Vermont Reading Specialist or K‑6 Classroom Teacher License.
  • Five years of teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Demonstrated lifelong learning with a collaborative spirit.

Position Type: Full‑time

Salary: $50,140 to $95,940 Per Year
