Essex Westford School District is seeking a caring, flexible, student-centered professional to serve as a Kindergarten Classroom / Medical Assistant. This position is part of the Kindergarten instructional team and also provides medical support to an identified student under the direction of the School Nurse.
The ideal candidate is nurturing, collaborative, calm under pressure, and passionate about supporting young learners academically, socially, behaviorally, physically, and medically within an inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Supporting kindergarten students academically, behaviorally, socially, and physically throughout the school day
- Assisting the classroom teacher with instructional activities, classroom routines, behavior support, and student supervision
- Providing student‑specific medical support and interventions under the direction of the School Nurse
- Supporting implementation of instructional plans, accommodations, behavioral supports, and student‑specific programming
- Supervising students during instructional and non‑instructional times including recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal, and transitions
- Assisting students with self‑care, mobility, toileting, feeding, dressing, and other physical support needs as required
- Helping maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and engaging learning environment
- Collecting and maintaining student data, records, and observations
- Collaborating with teachers, specialists, administrators, nurses, and families to support student success
- Associate’s degree, two years of college coursework, or successful completion of a para educator assessment preferred
- Experience working with elementary‑aged children in educational, childcare, healthcare, behavioral support, or related settings preferred
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure preferred; those with a medical background considered
- Experience supporting students with medical, behavioral, developmental, or learning needs preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, flexibility, and relationship‑building skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and student‑centered in challenging situations
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, and supporting the success of all students
This position requires regular, reliable attendance and the ability to actively support and supervise students throughout the school day, including providing physical assistance and responding to student medical or behavioral needs as necessary.
Job Requirements- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
Full‑Time School Year
Salary$23.51 to $24.75 Per Hour
