This is a live in position.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Coordinator of Residence Life and Student Activities supports the delivery of a positive, engaging, and student-centered residential and campus life experience. This position assists with the coordination of residence hall operations and student activities programming, while fostering student engagement, leadership
development, community standards, and student success. The Coordinator serves in a live-in capacity and participates in evening and weekend responsibilities, including on-call rotation, programming support, and crisis response.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist in the operation of one or more campus residence halls, including support for room assignments, room changes, openings and closings, key control, maintenance coordination, and health and safety processes.
* Support the development and implementation of student activities, clubs, events, and co-curricular programming designed to enhance student engagement and campus life.
* Assist with advising student organizations and the Student Government Association, including supporting student leaders in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities.
* Encourage student involvement, leadership development, inclusion, and advocacy through mentoring and support of student leaders and organizations.
* Assist with the planning and implementation of student leadership training and related development opportunities each semester.
* Support programming for major institutional events, including Orientation, Homecoming, Alumni & Family Weekend, Commencement, and other campus-wide initiatives.
* Supervise and support evening and weekend student activities and events.
* Assist in evaluating student engagement efforts and recommending improvements to programming and initiatives as needed.
* Promote an inclusive and welcoming campus environment that supports equity, accessibility, respect, and belonging for all students.
* Interpret and enforce residence life and student conduct policies and procedures, and assist with addressing student behavior concerns and policy violations in accordance with university processes.
* Assist with crisis response, student conduct matters, and conflict resolution within the residential community.
* Maintain a visible and engaged presence in the residence halls and student life activities to build community and reinforce expectations for student behavior and success.
* Facilitate hall openings and closings, including room checks, check-ins and check-outs, damage assessments, and related administrative responsibilities.
* Assist with end-of-year and semester damage billing and move-out processes.
* Supervise student staff, which may include Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, and other student
leadership roles.
* Assist with marketing and communication efforts to promote residence life initiatives, student activities, and campus events.
* Assist in maintaining student records, activity information, purchasing records, and other related administrative documentation.
* Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support programs and initiatives that contribute to student development, retention, and success.
* Participate in campus-based or university-wide committees and task forces, as approved by the supervisor.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct supervision is received by the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Student Activities.
SUPERVISIORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervision of student activities and Resident Assistants and student workers located at Johnson, Lyndon & Randolph.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
* Experience working with students in a residential life, student activities, student affairs, or related setting.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
* Valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience in residence life, student activities, or higher education student affairs.
* Experience supervising student staff or student leaders.
* Experience with student programming, leadership development, or student organization support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge:
* Understanding the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University include attention to accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Understanding the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural setting.
* Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to student success.
* Some experience in policy development and enforcement.
* Experience and knowledge of ADA compliance and ensuring accessibility for all students.
