Position Summary

The High School Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute ensures that students continue to learn in a safe, structured, and supportive environment while following provided lesson plans and school policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher in a timely and effective manner
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment
  • Take attendance and follow established school procedures
  • Communicate clear expectations for student behavior and enforce school rules consistently
  • Adapt instruction as needed to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and other assigned areas
  • Provide a written summary of the day's activities, including student behavior and any issues that arose
  • Safeguard confidential information regarding students and staff
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required
  • Prior experience working with adolescents in an educational or similar setting preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a variety of classroom settings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to engage students and maintain a productive learning environment
  • Basic knowledge of instructional practices and student supervision
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a school environment
  • May require standing, walking, and monitoring students for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to challenging student behavior
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move throughout the classroom and school building
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (as needed)
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Pay Range: $100 - $150 per day
