Vermont State University Castleton – String Instrument Teaching Methods Instructor

Vermont State University Castleton is seeking a qualified string player and educator to teach String Instrument Teaching Methods to undergraduate music education students. The 2-credit course is run bi‑annually, beginning Fall 2026. This is a part‑time teaching position for Fall 2026 with possible renewal.
Job Responsibilities- Teach MUS 2120 String Teaching Methods to undergraduate music education and music students (2 credits / 100 minutes per week).
- Create and maintain a Canvas course for course information and assignments.
- Be available for in‑person or online weekly office hours.
- Arrange for rental of instruments as necessary.
- Master’s degree in string performance, music education, or significant equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years teaching strings in an educational setting, preferably public school PK‑12.
- Experience teaching students from elementary through college age.
- Proficiency on bass, cello, viola, and violin and teaching pedagogy for these instruments.
- Understanding of public‑school string programs in Vermont and surrounding states.
Based on credits previously taught under the VSC‑VSCPTF Bargaining Unit Agreement. For details on compensation or range, refer to Articles 20 and 21 on pages 25 and 26 of the collective bargaining agreement.
For Applied Music Lessons the compensation is currently set at $650.00 for a 1‑credit lesson (50‑minute weekly lesson) and $325.00 for a 0.5‑credit lesson (30‑minute weekly lesson).
