Shelburne Community School (SCS) is seeking a part-time SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Alliance) Advisor to join our team for the school year. This vital role serves as a champion for school-wide inclusivity, taking responsibility for the planning, implementation, and overall support of SAGA. We are looking for a dedicated professional to ensure a safe, high-quality, and welcoming environment for our students, while acting as a supportive resource for faculty and staff regarding issues related to LGBTQIA+ students.
This is a part-time, Category D stipend position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and support the operations of SAGA at SCS, collaborating with a co-advisor when applicable.
- Host regular meetings with student leaders and provide an active adult presence to manage and facilitate the club during advisory/club periods.
- Offer ongoing personal and leadership support for SAGA students, fostering an environment of collaboration, identity validation, and skill development.
- Oversee and manage advisory/club adult volunteers to ensure student groups are properly supported and monitored during club activities.
- Serve as a pedagogical and cultural resource for faculty and staff, providing guidance and insights on supporting LGBTQIA+ students across the school community.
- Coordinate and attend out-of-school events, campaigns, or initiatives that align with SAGA's mission, some of which may occur on evenings and/or weekends.
- Proven knowledge of positive youth development, student advocacy, and best practices for creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor student leaders, collaborate with colleagues, and coordinate adult volunteers.
- Ability to coordinate club logistics, event timelines, and student activities to ensure successful club execution.
- Ability to work cooperatively and interact respectfully with students, staff, parents, and outside organizations.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including school daytime periods, evenings, and weekends, to support out-of-school club events.
This is a part-time stipend position based on qualifications and experience. The position is a "Category D Activity" on our co-curricular contract, and the compensation is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. More information about CVSD can be found on our district website.
CVSD is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to ensuring that all of our students achieve our mission - which means we are also committed to developing a faculty and staff that represents the inclusive, welcoming environment we seek to develop for students and families.
