Job DescriptionCavendish Town Elementary School (CTES) is a small K–6 school serving approximately 70 students. The district seeks a collaborative, student‑centered leader committed to fostering academic excellence, supporting the whole child, and building strong relationships with staff, students, families, and the broader community.
Location:
Proctorsville, Vermont, near Okemo Mountain Resort. The role offers a unique opportunity to lead a close‑knit school community in a region known for strong community values and outdoor recreation.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in elementary school leadership, strong instructional leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and support students and educators in a small‑school environment. The principal will also play an active role in implementing district‑wide initiatives and advancing continuous school improvement efforts.

QualificationsVermont Principal licensure or eligibility for Vermont principal licensure required.
Significant experience as an elementary classroom teacher and educational leader.

Serve as chief administrator, responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets that support student growth and staff professional development. Collaborate on district‑wide initiatives and priorities.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of school goals and continuous improvement efforts
- Oversee the instructional program, including support for essential arts programming
- Promote high expectations for student learning and social‑emotional development
- Support personalized, proficiency‑based education and data‑informed instructional practices
- Supervise, evaluate, and support professional growth of faculty and staff
- Analyze student learning data to guide decisions and interventions
- Lead implementation of MTSS systems and trauma‑informed practices
- Support technology integration in in‑person and virtual settings
Organizational Leadership
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, district leaders, families, and community partners
- Oversee operations, budgeting, staffing, and facility management
- Lead hiring processes and support staff retention
- Coordinate safety procedures and emergency drills
- Serve as or designate leadership for HHB and Title IX investigations
- Support staff wellness initiatives and positive workplace culture
Community Leadership
- Build strong partnerships with families and community members
- Maintain open communication with stakeholders
- Promote awareness of programs, initiatives, and student successes
- Respond to community needs and perspectives
- Ensure policies and procedures are clearly communicated and consistently implemented

Job Requirements- Minimum of a MA degree and 5 years of administrative experience. Previous experience as an elementary school principal preferred. Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Principal License.
