High School /Community Skills Para educator for the FY 26/27 school year. We are looking for a dedicated, patient, and energetic individual to join our team as a High School /Community Skills Para educator. This isn't your typical classroom role; you will be the bridge between academic learning and real-world independence for our high school students eligible for special education services. If you believe that education should extend beyond the four walls of a school and you have a passion for empowering young adults with diverse learning needs, we want to meet you.
Impact You’ll Make
As a paraprofessional, you will support students both in the classroom and out in the local community. Your goal is to support students transition (IEP transitions plans) from high school to adulthood with confidence.
Key Responsibilities- Academic Support:
Assist students in alternate and inclusive classroom settings, modifying materials and providing one–on–one guidance to ensure they meet their IEP goals. - Community Integration:
Lead "Community–Based Instruction" (CBI) trips, teaching students how to use public transportation, manage money at grocery stores, and navigate local businesses. - Vocational
Coaching:
Support students at job sites, helping them develop professional soft skills, follow schedules, and complete tasks effectively. - Life Skills Mentorship:
Model and teach essential daily living skills such as time management, social cues, and self‑advocacy. - Data & Progress:
Keep accurate logs of student progress and collaborate with Special Education Teachers and therapists to adjust support strategies.
- Empathy & Patience:
Understand that progress isn't always linear and celebrate the "small wins". - Reliability:
Be someone students can count on every day. - Communication:
Clearly communicate with students, staff, and community partners.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED required (Associate’s degree or 60+ college credits preferred). - Experience:
Previous experience working with youth or individuals with disabilities is a major plus. - Mobility:
Ability to travel within the community with students. - Position Type:
Full‑time.
- At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
