St. Johnsbury School District (STJSD) serves more than 1,000 students from Pre‑K through 8th grade. The district offers an excellent outdoor educational space, new playgrounds, and a dedicated team focused on employee wellness.

Job Summary

We seek a dedicated and energetic 3rd Grade Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching primary‑grade students and familiarity with Responsive Classroom and SEL programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for Humanities, integrating history, literature, geography, and civics.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, discussion, and student inquiry.
  • Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and understanding.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades and attendance.
  • Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and procedures; create a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Address and manage student behavioral issues constructively.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate curriculum and share best practices.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Stay current with developments in Humanities education and integrate new strategies.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Valid teaching license or certification for Vermont (or eligibility).
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
  • Previous teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Humanities subjects and curriculum standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality.
Physical Requirements
  • Stamina – long hours on feet, moving around the classroom.
  • Energy levels – high energy engagement and classroom dynamics.
  • Health and fitness – maintain overall health for standing, carrying materials.
  • Manual dexterity – writing on board, handling materials.

Salary and Benefits

Salary follows the Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based on years of experience and educational level. Teachers work 186 days each school year. They receive 15 sick days, 4 emergency days, 5 personal days, and 5 bereavement days. BCBS of Vermont is the health insurance; the employer pays the first $1,900 for single coverage or $4,000 for multi‑person plan of out‑of‑pocket costs plus 100% of prescription costs.

Employer covers single dental coverage, life insurance, and long‑term disability insurance.
