Job DescriptionMill River Unified Union School District seeks a Para educator for the Preschool program at Wallingford Elementary School to provide developmental, academic, and behavioral support services to preschool students.

- QUALIFICATIONS: A trainee is at least fifteen (15) years of age, able to comprehend basic written format, and meets one (1) of the following qualifications:
- At least a high school graduate or has completed a GED and completes the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals’ course or the Vermont After school Essentials Certificate within the first twelve (12) months of employment; or
- At least a high school graduate or has completed a GED and successful completion of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or in school age care and education within the first twelve (12) months of employment; or
- At least is enrolled in or has received a State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or early childhood education
- A successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Ability to interact effectively, including all written, non-verbal and verbal interactions, with students and co-workers.
- Ability to take direction and feedback when provided, and to work independently when needed.
- Ability to implement a variety of developmental, academic, and behavioral supports under the supervision/direction of licensed personnel and administration.
- Meet professional development and other regulatory needs for working within a certified prekindergarten program as well as maintain professional development hours and attend and contribute to district and school based meetings.
- Ability to help manage a safe, happy and nurturing classroom independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to help supervise instruction and activities as well as assist in all daily preparation work and clean up of rooms.
- Ability to move around, work with students on the ground and at small desks, and assist students.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive working relationship with teachers, parents and other staff members.
- Commitment to establishing a nurturing relationship with the children in addition to serving as a positive role model.
