Cedar Circle Farm and Education Center seeks per diem educators to facilitate our Little Farmers program. Little Farmers is a farm‑based early childhood program for children ages 2–5 and their caregivers, offering hands‑on opportunities to explore the farm, the food we grow, and our relationships with the natural world.
About the PositionLittle Farmers Educators create and lead a new sensory place‑based lesson inspired by seasonal changes on the farm. The program runs for 10 months and has two unique formats:
- Indoor cooking classes on Tuesdays (9:30‑11:00 a.m.) from January through April
- Outdoor, on‑farm classes on Sundays (11:00 a.m.
-12:00 p.m.) and Tuesdays (9:30‑10:30 a.m.) from May through October
Educators may teach on Tuesdays, Sundays, or both. The position averages approximately 5 hours per week from January through April (including planning and teaching time) and approximately 8 hours per week from May through October for educators teaching both days.
Responsibilities- Design lesson plans in collaboration with the Education Department staff, which focus on the general themes of food, farming, and ecology
- Provide a welcoming, fun, and safe space for children and their caregivers
- Facilitate lesson plans in ways that encourage learners to use their senses to explore the farm and the surrounding ecosystem
- Gather and prepare materials needed for class and clean materials / facilities after class is complete each week
- Assist with class registration and managing rosters
- Experience teaching and developing lesson plans for early childhood students
- Enthusiasm for experiential, place‑based, inclusive education
- Passion for sharing food, agriculture, and ecology with preschool students
- A willingness to engage with families and their children to establish long‑lasting relationships with our community
- The physical and mental ability to teach outdoors in all types of weather
